Buck-IRB Initial Submissions (Zoom)

The Office of Responsible Research Practices is offering a session on the Buck-IRB initial submission application. At the end of the offering, attendees will be able to:

Navigate through the Ohio State IRB initial application (not external or exempt)
Identify documents that typically accompany a complete application
Anticipate common pitfalls and create strategies for a successful submission

The session will be tailored to medical researchers; however, anyone preparing IRB submissions is welcome to attend. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, September 19th from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. via Zoom.

Open Access Article Publishing With No Cost to Ohio State Authors (Virtual Information Session)

More than $3.3 million in fees have been waived for Ohio State corresponding authors publishing Open Access articles under the agreements University Libraries has with Taylor & Francis, Wiley, Cambridge University Press, PLOS, the Royal Society, The Company of Biologists, De Gruyter, the Institute of Physics (IOP), and the Microbiology Society. Join us to learn more about our agreements with publishers that provide no cost Open Access article publishing for Ohio State corresponding authors. We will provide an overview of each agreement, the benefits of each for you as an author, and answer questions you may have about Open Access publishing.

eConsent in REDCap (Webinar)

REDCap Design Part 2: Advanced (Webinar)

This level of training is appropriate for individuals who have used REDCap and are comfortable with building forms, or have attended or watched Design 2: Basics training. This session is the most advanced design session available. It reviews the most recent features of advanced REDCap, as well as advanced action tags, advanced calculated fields, smart variables, HTML, external modules, multi-language module, and more!

This level of training is appropriate for individuals who have used REDCap and are comfortable with building basic forms, or have attended or watched Design 1 training. This session reviews more advanced features of building forms such as piping, embedding, branching logic, the basics of calculated fields, action tags, longitudinal data collection, randomization, and more!

Opportunities for Research Within the Data Science Education Community Webinar

Hosts: Katherine Miller, The Concord Consortium; Seth Jones, Middle Tennessee State University; Kirsten Daehler, WestEd; David Weintrop, University of Maryland; and Chad Dorsey, The Concord Consortium

The goal of this workshop session is to invite early career researchers interested in data science education (DSE) into the DSE community. The session includes information on the state of the field; tools, curricula, and other resources for researchers; and insight into funding opportunities and proposal development. Participants explore topics, research interests, and problems of practice in more depth in breakout rooms with session leaders. Participants share nascent research ideas and receive feedback and mentoring. While all members of the DSE research community are welcome to attend, the session focuses on resources and support for those who are early in their research careers and seeking to build a career in studying and supporting DSE at all educational levels—but particularly at the K-12 level.

Mapping your Research Agenda: Workshop and Panel Discussion Webinar

Join the Office of Knowledge Enterprise for this two-hour workshop, designed for early- to mid-career faculty interested in developing a concrete plan for their short-term and long-term research agenda.

In our first hour, Rachel Kajfez, associate professor of engineering education in the College of Engineering will share her own experiences with research planning and provide practical steps for breaking down a long-term plan into smaller goals. In our second hour, participants will have an opportunity to engage with a panel of faculty from across the university to learn about their pathways and research planning strategies. Panelists will reflect on topics such as when and how to change course, planning around life events, and pursuing interdisciplinary research. Questions for our panelists can be submitted in advance or during the workshop.
